Unlock Your Kiwisaver in Just 5 Minutes: Quick and Easy Pre-Approval Checklist and Email

1 January 2023

How do I withdraw my Kiwisaver?

The first step is to open and save a copy of HouseMe Legal’s Kiwisaver Checklist - click here.

Follow this checklist.

‍

When you begin looking to buy your first property, you should contact your Kiwisaver provider for an estimate letter to confirm your eligibility and the approximate amount you can withdraw.

‍

Please be aware that your Kiwisaver savings may fluctuate at any time due to the fund your Kiwisaver money is held in. To withdraw your Kiwisaver, you need to have signed an agreement that can be either conditional or unconditional.

‍

Your next step is to complete your Kiwisaver provider’s application to withdraw your Kiwisaver. You will need to provide us with copies of any other required documents e.g. driver’s license, passport, proof of address etc so we can view the originals and send them to your Kiwisaver provider.

‍

Once we send your forms to your Kiwisaver provider, your Kiwisaver provider will take 10-15 working days to send your Kiwisaver funds (except for $1,000) into our trust account. This money can then be put towards buying your first home or in some cases, paying for the deposit.

‍

How to ask for an indicative amount in your Kiwisaver and for approval to withdraw funds

If you want to know how much you may be able to withdraw from your Kiwisaver, please send your Kiwisaver provider this email.

Hi

My name is [your name] and my member ID is [your membership number]. I am in the process of buying my first home and will be withdrawing my Kiwisaver once I have a signed agreement.

Could you please provide me with an indicative amount that I would be able to withdraw if I was withdrawing my Kiwisaver right now.

Please also state in your response that I am eligible to withdraw my Kiwisaver for a first home

withdrawal.

Kind regards

[your name]
