Checklist · For first home buyers

Withdraw your KiwiSaver — without the %%timing%% catching you out.

KiwiSaver withdrawal takes 10–15 working days. If you don't start at the right moment, funds arrive after settlement. This checklist covers every step, every form, and the timing triggers at each stage.

Missing the KiwiSaver timing window is one of the most avoidable things a first home buyer can do. This checklist exists because every month I talk to a buyer who started the process too late.

Common questions

Before you download.

Do I need to use HouseMe Legal to use this checklist?

No — any NZ property lawyer can act on your KiwiSaver withdrawal. The checklist is provider-agnostic.

What if my provider is slow?

Build a buffer into your settlement date. A 15-working-day buffer is safer than a 10-working-day one.

Can I use KiwiSaver for the 10% deposit at auction?

Only with a special clause in the contract. See our KiwiSaver Options guide.
