Video Discussing a First Home Buyer's Journey with Us: 6 minutes - Three Ps: Preparation, Progress and Peak
Buying your first home is like climbing a mountain for the first time.
You’ll take longer than expected, forget key items, and maybe get lost.
You’ll overpack, second-guess your path, and spend most of the time unsure if you’re heading in the right direction.
Now imagine you’ve climbed that same track 500 times.
You’d know which route to take, what to pack (and what to leave), and exactly when to speed up or slow down.
That’s why I specialise in first-homebuyer legal work - to fulfill the role of a Legal Sherpa for first home buyers.
First-homebuyers are understandably nervous.
They’re spending money on legal advice, LIMs, building reports, valuations and loan reports — before they’ve even secured a property.
They’re worried about wasting that money if the deal doesn’t go ahead.
When they do get an offer accepted, they don’t want to end up with a dud.
They’re juggling timing across KiwiSaver, finance approvals, tenancy end dates, deposit deadlines, and condition timeframes — all while learning the process for the first time.
Property investors know how to do this (or at least most of it) — that means we're not a good fit for them.
Without the right guidance, they risk:
Each of these is a standard part of the process — but they all involve time pressure.
And time pressure is what catches people out.
In general practice, lawyers offer dozens of different services.
It’s like walking a different track every week.
You don’t get faster.
You don’t get better.
And you don’t improve your systems — because you’re constantly starting from scratch.
By focusing only on first-homebuyer work, I’ve been able to improve the process 1% each time.

We've completed 280+ Zoom intro calls for First Home Buyers over the last two years - it's all about getting your reps in and then refining further.
We know where buyers typically get stuck.
We know what to explain earlier.
We know how to map out the steps to reduce surprises.
It’s about repetition — and refinement.
We don’t promise shortcuts. We don’t just “review the agreement.”
We help clients early (for free). We call this the Prep for the Climb stage:
Our job is to walk the track beside them: to be their Legal Sherpa.
Unlike other firms, we offer free pre-offer assistance before they sign an agreement — to make sure they aren’t heading up a dangerous mountain (e.g. property contains detrimental disclosures like unconsented works, defective titles or a history of leaks).
This significantly increases their chance of being successful and ensuring a smooth journey.
